How many types of braces are there
Malocclusion of teeth, meaning the teeth are not aligned properly, is one of the most common dental problems. The most effective ways to deal with misaligned teeth is to treat them is with the help of braces. Dental braces are known for correcting misalignment of teeth that will eventually lead to serious problems while eating, talking or functioning on a daily basis.
The braces job is to position the teeth properly to achieve a functional and esthetic smile. There are many different types of braces that are available out there and it can be somewhat confusing as to which kind is best suited for you. Since buying braces is quite an investment, it is good to verify with a qualified orthodontist about the different kinds of braces available and the types of treatment variation from one type to the next.
Different Types of braces
Traditional or conventional braces are the ones that have been around for a long time. These types of braces are often used to treat children. These braces utilize a small bracket that is stuck to the front part of every tooth. Equipped with wires, metal coils and elastics, they put extra pressure on the teeth helping to move them in the right direction.
Traditional braces are very durable and available in different materials such as, ceramic, gold and metal. Many colorful and decorated braces are also available for children and adults. You can make your own selection from the many designs that are available.
Lingual braces – These are becoming more popular nowadays. Their popularity is due in part to the fact that they are stuck at the back of the teeth instead of at the front. This of course prevents the braces from being seen by anyone. Lingual braces are more costly and are mostly used on adult patients. These are ideal for people who prefer to hide the fact that they wear braces.
Brackets – These are made of very thin solid wires that are mounted around the teeth also linked to the braces covering both lower and upper jaw. Brackets are available in metal, plastic and ceramics.
Ceramic braces – These types of braces use purely a composite porcelain material without metallic ingredients. On average, these cost slightly more and don’t have as strong of a “pull/push” force like the metal braces do. The big advantage of ceramic braces is of course the fact that these can be tinted to match the color of the teeth and are hardly noticeable compare to metal braces.
Inman aligner – These braces are usually referred to as removable braces. They are designed to push the teeth into alignment a lot faster and parents will love the fact that they are cheaper than the traditional braces. These Inman aligners are used for smaller jobs and take only a few weeks to set the teeth right.
Invisalign, Made Of Invisible Material
Invisalign – These were designed especially for adults and teenagers who require minor orthodontic work correction. They are loved by wearers because of the fact that they are removable and can be adjusted every couple of weeks or so. They are also clear aligners made of invisible material and help to improve your smile.
